Established in 1992, Kids Eat Smart Foundation Newfoundland and Labrador is a registered charity that supports education, health, and well-being of school children throughout the province through support of Kids Eat Smart Clubs – nutrition programs run by volunteers at schools and community centres.
The goal is to provide children with the nutrition they need to learn, to grow, and to be their best.
Kids Eat Smart Foundation supports include:
- Financial support (start-up, sustaining and matching grants and fruit & veggies first! grants)
- Program support (food safety training, nutrition education, menu-planning, organizational structure, etc.)
- Volunteer support (volunteer recognition items) and other supports to programs.
The Foundation supports more than 200 Kids Eat Smart Clubs in each of the four school districts in the province, making nutritious food choices available to some 52,000 students. Approximately 20,000 children participate on a regular basis.
The Clubs are run by a complement of more than 5,500 volunteers.
